How Do You Drink Bubble Tea?

Although bubble tea has been available in the UK since 2011, a surprising number of people have never tried the delicious beverage. 

If you’ve never had bubble tea, you might be wondering how you drink bubble tea and whether you eat the pearls in bubble tea.

Drinking bubble tea is super simple once you know how, and our guide is here to help you. 

To drink bubble tea, you will need to:

1. Choose your bubble tea base
2. Choose your toppings 
3. Pierce the lid with your straw
4. Take a sip and chew the pearls

1. Choose Your Bubble Tea Base

Firstly, you will need to choose your bubble tea base.

Which bubble tea base you opt for will largely depend on your mood. Perhaps you want a fruit tea? From lychee to strawberry, passion fruit to mango, there are many fruit tea bases to choose from.

Alternatively, if you’re in the mood for a milk base, you might prefer to opt for tiger milk tea or classic Assam milk tea.

Bubble tea toppings include popping bubbles or tapioca pearls, fruit jellies, and more depending on the bubble tea shop that you go to.

Once you’ve got your bubble tea, it’s time to pierce the lid with your boba straw.

Bubble tea cups are quite often sealed with a plastic lid that can be tricky to pierce if you’ve never done it before, so be sure to help if you’re purchasing bubble tea for your kids as this will help to prevent any spillages from occurring. 

4. Take A Sip & Chew The Pearls

Once you have pierced the lid with the boba straw, you can begin sipping your bubble tea.

The thick boba straw allows you to sip your bubble tea and chew the tapioca pearls at the same time. That said, be cautious as you take your first couple of sips of bubble tea, and be sure to drink it slowly to ensure you have time to chew all of the delicious tapioca pearls, popping bubbles, or any other toppings.

Note that, if you have braces, it's always best to sip through a straw to limit the amount contact the front of your teeth has with the sugary liquid, and to prevent the bubble tea pearls becoming lodged in between the wires.

5. Enjoy Your Bubble Tea 

The last, and arguably the most important step, is to enjoy your bubble tea.
